9 Cats Taking Selfies
Superman, then, is the agent of modern fable — the most compelling
fable the 20th Century gave us….
At the heart of that myth and legend is Romance.
That is not the same as the weak, whiny demands of soapopera that begin with “characterisation” and crap on with demands for
ever more levels of “conflict”, “jeopardy”, “ensemble writing”, “tight
continuity” and all the rest of that bollocks. These things are unimportant.
Many of them just completely get in the way of the job at hand.
SUPERMAN requires only the sweep and invention and vision that
myth demands, and the artistry and directness and clean hands that
Romance requires.
SUPERMAN is about someone trying their best to save the world, one
day at a time; and it’s about that person’s love for that one whose intellect
and emotion and sheer bloody humanity completes him. It’s about
Superman, and it’s about Lois and Clark. And that’s all there is. That’s
the spine. That must be protected to the death, not lost in a cannonade
succession of continuing stories.
That’s what, in the continuing rush to top the last plotline, I see getting lost.

Campaign to get DC Comics let Warren Ellis write Superman, yes?
Yes.

Beautiful. Maybe more new generation readers would become more invested in Superman if they knew this version of him.

I think many young people only know this version of him as they grew up with “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” and the Animated series and the various DC animated features and even Smallville by the end. Clark spent 10 years on Smallville finding his way to Lois just as much as he was finding his way to Superman and the journeys quite literally collided by the end so that one couldn’t exist without the other.
There were plenty of writers within the last 30 years who did understand this. And there were some that didn’t.
I don’t think it’s the fans who don’t get this. I think it’s the current leadership at DC.
Now, whether the new FILM will understand this remains to be seen. That’s the question of the hour, isn’t it?
But yeah…in case you didn’t know..Warren Ellis is smart, everyone.
(via therearecertainshadesoflimelight)^YES! THIS!!! I’d vouch for this!!!^
(via ealperin)Love this man.
Interviewer: Nick, what’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened on the set of ‘Parks and Recreation?’
Nick Offerman: Well, everything’s funny. But I recall one situation, not actually on set. We were all at a panel and we were doing a question and answer. And way up in the balcony was this tiny woman. And she was given the microphone and said, “Yes, hello. First of all, I’m a librarian—” and Amy, with literally no fucking pause, goes “YOU GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE RIGHT NOW.” It was pretty awesome.
Brilliant.
